MinimServer uPnP server now adds support for showing artist artwork in its indexes when browsing with a uPnP control point (Full or Trial license needed), this is a big improvement before you could only see artist artwork when browsing artist folders.
And SongKong already supports adding artist artwork (Pro or Melco license needed) , so here follows instructions on configuring artist artwork so it can be used by MinimServer. For simplicity we are running SongKong, MInimServer and Kinsky uPnP Control Point all on a Windows PC but the instructions are essentially the same for any supported platform.
-
In SongKongKong start Fix Songs, and go to the Artwork tab
-
Enable Artist Artwork Options and use the Update button to select what roles you want to try and find artist artwork for, in this example we select everything.
-
Now select Add all artist artwork to folder, and select the folder. In this installation MinimServer has the music root defined as E:|Music\Wav so by default it expects to find a folder called indexArtwork here. (That folder probably does not exist but we can create a new folder within the Folder dialog by right-clicking, selecting New Folder and renaming)
-
Also set Save album artist artwork to artists folders in fileysystem to Yes so that the user can also see album artist images when browsing their artist folders.
-
Now start Fix Songs, once completed if we browse the indexArtwork folder we can see there are now images for the people and groups involved in the music that we have found, each image is named after the artist
-
And we also have folder.jpg files at the albumartist level
-
With the default configuration of MinimServer you can see artist images when use your control point ( we using Linn Kinsky here) to browse by folder
but since this is a new feature of MinimServer you will not yet see any artist images when browse by Artist, All Artists or Composer
-
But all you need to do within MinimServer is go to Properties and select the Advanced tab, and add the indexArtwork option to serverOptions. We recommend setting it as indexArtwork=all then an artist image will be shown if available otherwise an album cover featuring the artist will be shown.
-
After modifying the option you need to tell MinimServer to Rescan, once this has completed your control point should now show the artwork when browse the Artist, All Artist and Composer indexes.
-
Alternatively if you don’t want to use album artwork and instead show the default image when you don’t have an artist image you can set indexArtwork=folder. This also makes it easier to find the missing artist images, in case you want to find them manually yourself and add them to the indexArtwork folder.
