Help for Newbie - Basic Functions with both SK and Jaikoz

I have the pro version of Songkong and not sure what version of Jaikoz (in "about " it only gives the name).

I have a large number of files with no metadata at all. I don’t care at all about the album. Using both programs, how do I:

  1. Get max number of songs recognized. Which method?
  2. Have songs placed in folders with the simple structure:

Group that sang it/Song name

Hi, with SongKong do the following:

  • Select Fix Songs with Default profile
  • On Basic tab uncheck Preview Only
  • Select Start
  • Select Fix Songs again
  • On Basic tab uncheck the Only allow match if all songs in grouping match to one album option
  • Select Start
  • Select Rename Files with Default profile
  • On Basic tab uncheck Preview Only
  • Switch to Rename Files tab
  • Set Rename Files based on Metadata to Yes if has metadata
  • Set Rename mask and Compilation Rename mask combos to Artist/Title
  • Select Start

That should do what you want, running Fix Songs twice firstly restricting to album matches and then relaxing criteria should give slightly better results than relaxing criteria immediately.

No, it can all be done with SongKong.

One wrinkle.

A song can be the version that was the original radio release, or it can be an LP version from an album, or (horrible) a re-recording. Obviously, SK can’t change what a song is, but any way it can indicate which of the ones I mentioned the particular file is?

So a particular recording can be on multiple albums, so using your original radio release/lp version example it maybe that the song is identical and therefore it should have the same MusicBrainz Recording Id, but if in fact they are different versions then they should have a different MusicBrainz Recording Id, a re-recording should always be a different MusicBrainz Recording Id.

The Original Album field store the name of the first release (not neccessarily album) that the song was released on so what you could try is running Scripter on your files to add this value to the song title

e.g

if(originalalbum.length>0)
{
    title = title  + ' (' + originalalbum + ")";
}

I would run Preview Only and check the report to see if you are happy with results, you might decide you need to finesse things to get exactly what you want.
