Folder Help Please

I’m trying to organize my music folders for iTunes but keep running into problems.

Basically all I want to do is in my iTunes folder have: a folder for the Artists with a sub-folder for the album and within that the track and song name as the file.

I’ve tried what I thought was right from the instructions and keep getting it wrong. I’ve attached a photo of what’s happening.

If someone can walk me through this with detailed instructions, I’d greatly appreciate it. This program is apparently way to complicated for me.

Thanks!

You probably want to run Correct SubFolder from Metadata as well, also check your masks in Preferences:File and Folder Correct:Rename Folder from Metadata and Preferences:File and Folder Correct:Rename Filename from Metadata

Also if these files are going to be stored in iTunes, make sure you dont have ‘Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised,’ checked under iTunes:Preferences:Advanced

Thanks Paul. I must have accidentally deleted (and then saved) the mask settings without any info in them. Can you help me populate them correctly or should I just uninstall/reinstall the program back to defaults?

Thanks again for your help.

D.

The defaults are

SubFolder
%bestartist%%folderseperator%%album%

Filename
$if(%bestartist%,%bestartist%-)$if(%album%,%album%-)$if(%trackno%,%trackno%-)%title%

and Correct Metadata from Filename
%artist%-%album%-%trackno%-%title%

This is what I got when I used those settings.

Still trying to rename and organize them to: Base folder /iTunes /Artist [folder] /Album [folder] /TrackNo-Title

Make the Base Folder column visible, is this duplicate in the sub folder column

I’m not real sure if this is what you’re asking me to do.

Yes, sort of but it would have been useful if you had shown the subfolder and filename columns as well, sorry should have been clearer.

I think the problem is this.

Normally users open their Music folder i.e /Users/dwr508 (this is the base folder), then when they run Correct Subfolder and this creates subfolders below this base don your mask containing stuff like album, title.

But I think you are opening /Users/dwr508/Artist/AlbumName/ so you don’t need to run Correct Subfolder from Metadata because this information is already in the filepath.

But what about if you want to change the existing info how do you that ?
Well, you can either use the Action/File and Folder Correct/Shift commands to make sure the base folder doesn’t include the artist/album info . Or load your songs from the Music/Itunes level instead of the files within it.

It still didn’t work and I’m not sure I’m following you exactly as to what I need to do…

I uninstalled the program via the uninstaller and reinstalled but obviously somethings remained because when I reinstalled, my settings (and musicbrainz login) were still there. I really wanted to start from scratch to make sure I hadn’t changed any settings that was causing the problems.

As of now my iTunes isn’t a factor. My music is all screwed up anyway so I really just want to start from scratch and organize my music in a folder structure like: Music/Artist/Album/Title

Here’s where my problem starts. I apparently don’t know how to do that. Do I set the base folder to a brand new folder or how to I set it up to analyze the file name and set the folder structure how I want it?

Thanks for the help and baby steps you’re taking with me. This program has a lot of options and is very powerful, I guess maybe too much for me! I have another program that I bought too that is an add-on to iTunes but it only will process a couple hundred songs at a time. That’s not an option with 15,000 songs so I’d really like to figure this out.

Thanks!

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Yes because they are store in your user folder so they dont get lost on upgrade, need to remove settings.jai , see instructions for issue 4 at http://www.jthink.net/jaikozforum/posts/list/1246.page

Ok for now and with the default settings, make sure you load the files from Music NOT Music\Artist and it should work pretty much as you requiire.
