Hi,
I do not understand how to edit Masks. I want my file name to be formatted as Artist/s - Year - Album - Disc No - Total Disc No. Track No - Track Name. When I have a various artists album, I want the artist shown as Various Artist and the artists name after the track name.
Is this possible?
Thanks,
Jax
Filename Masks
Yes, just about anything is possible.
Take a look at the predefined masks on the Filenaming tab that come with SongKong, (they are all listed in the Filenames Masks dropdown) to find one that works for you. If there is not one exactly as you require you can modify an existing one or create a new one.
Then set your new mask to use as Rename Mask, and the same or different one to use as Compilation Rename mask
Note, files are not renamed by default unless you change the Rename files based on metadata option from No on the Basic tab
I am still having trouble. At the moment I have
AlbumArtistor/Year/Album/DiscIfMultiDisc/Album - DiscNo TrackNo - Title
in the Rename mask, which gives me “Roxy Blue - Want Some? - 01 01 - Too Hot to Handle” after fixing.
I want “Roxy Blue - 1992 - Want Some? - 01 - 01 - Too Hot to Handle”.
I am not sure how to edit the Filename Mask to achieve this, can you help please.

Hmm, I dont see to have that one, have you created that one ?
I’m sorry, I don’t know how to create one. I have tried editing what is there without much luck.

But AlbumArtistor/Year/Album/DiscIfMultiDisc/Album - DiscNo TrackNo - Title is just the name, can you output the actual mask please,
I don’t know how to do that.
- OK, select the filename mask in the Filename Masks drop-down on Filenaming tab
- Click Edit
- Select the value in the Mask field (Windows: Cnt - A, OSX Cmd - A)
- Copy value (Windows: Cnt - C, OSX Cmd - C)
- Open Email and Paste value ((Windows: Cnt - V, OSX Cmd - V)
I appear to have broken it. I have changed the fix songs back to default after reinstalling Song Kong and when I run it the file name is not changed. I can see it working and have tried varies filename masks but the filename remains the same. I think I’ll give up and stick with Jaikoz.
Well you need to ensure Rename Filename from Metadata is not set to No on the first tab. Renaming is currently better in SongKong than Jaikoz.
Hi Jax, I just looked at your support files and can see that actually the problem is that you seemed to have deleted some of the standard javascript functions that your rename mask relies on (namely ifnotempty() and ifnotmultidisc()). This is partly my fault I probably should not let these functions be deletable or even editable.
So you are running Rename mask but it is not working because they are missing, and in this case just selecting Restore Defaults on the Filenaming tab is not going to recreate them.
The easiest thing to do would be to to restore the default configuration, since you are on a Mac you would do this as follows:
- Close SongKong
- From the Finder hold down Option Button and select Go menu, then the Library folder will appear in the list
- Select Library from the list
- Go to Preferences:SongKong folder
- Delete songkong.properties
- Start SongKong
This will copy over the default and things should work again
