editing multiple id3 fields at same time, and nuances of implimentation

It would be nice when a column or multiple fields were selected, if one could right click and have an option to “edit field(s)”.

This function would allow you to add to or change the value in multiple fields, in one or multiple columns, simultaneously.

An example of the implementation i’d like to see:

Using “ctrl”, I select the comment field of 3 songs and the author field of 4 more songs. I right click and seclect “edit field(s)”.
A pop up box appears, with perhaps “xxxxxx” in a data box signifying any data that is already in the selected fields.
These X’s would be highlighted. If I started typing all info would be erased. If I were to use the over arow and start typing after the X’s, all information typed would be added to the selected fields, without erasing any existing information.

It’s a feature that’s in every id3 editor i know, except for two aspects.

  1. the ability to retain the existing info
  2. the ability to select and edit individual boxes from different catagories at the same time using the “ctrl”`

I don’t know about the rest of the music world but my collection gets, moved, renamed and molested, on a regular basis; making playlists hard to manage. Especially when you have over 150 gigs. I dj for dances as well. I’d like to have he uses of a songs in the "comments field, and be able to search the songs out by what is written there, ie Tango, two step, playlistx nicoles favorite, christmas, etc.

Right now i’ve been using the “find replace” option to enter info into multiple files. then media monkey’s auto-playlist function for retrieval.

I’m revolting against the traditionalal playlist. I guess what i realy want is a way to select unlimited genres for each song, this is the next best thing.

    In Jaikoz you would:
Enter your new value in one empty field
    Select Copy
    Select Fields to Paste to
Select Paste to replace the value, or Paste to End to add to the end of values

Personally Im not keen on Popups and don’t see that your idea is any easier then what we already have.

You can add multiple genres to the Genre field, but unfortunately the Tag browser only browses based on the first genre at the moment.

Also on my tood list I have adding a Folksonomy Field which would hold ALL the genres a file is tagged within Musicbrainz, but you could use it for multiple genres from any source/added manually.
