What’s the difference? Just wondering where these values come from and if maybe I should be making sure the MB release id matches the original release id.
Difference between MB release id and MB original release id
No, the release id is the id of the release that best matches the set of songs. The original release id is the id of the earliest release the song was found on.
Three common scenarios
-
Your songs are matched to a Various Artist compilation, but the original release id will give a link to the original release the songs was released on.
-
You have bought a classic album in Cd or as a download and this it what the release id refers to , but the original release id gives a link to the original vinyl album.
-
You have matched an album, but some of the tracks were released as singles before the album was released, the original release id links to the singles they were released.
The Original Release Year is the date of the original release and one of the main points of finding the original release year is to get the original release date. For example if you want to make a 60’s playlist you would want it to contain songs that were originally released in the 60’s rather than the 2014 date of the 60s compilation you have them on.
Both SongKong and Jaikoz have options to let you store the original release date as the release date because the orginal release date may not be visible in many music players
See Jaikoz:Preferences:MusicBrainz:Format:Put Original Year into Year Field
and
SongKong:Format:Use Original Release Date
Thanks, that’s helpful.
