Compilation Albums - Best of Albums vs. "real" Compilations

Hi all,

I just recently bought the Pro Version of SongKong.
Matching and tagging works quite well in most cases. There are some albums with problems though and some options which don’t seem to have the desired effects. I will do more testing and collect more details before I report back on those.
In this post I have questions about compilations:

I have many Best of Albums which SongKong treats as compilations and therefore the albums show up under VA in my player not under the artists name. (Player= Logitech Squeezebox)

Yesterday I tried to tag the album 50 Cent - Best of
The result was a folder called: 50 Cent - Best of (Release year)
Album Artist as well as Artist were tagged as 50 Cent

I think the Squeezebox thinks it is a VA album because both the artist and the album artist are in the tags - is that correct or is there some other identifier for VA which MP3Tag does not show?

Is it somehow possible to change that behaviour - so that only “real” VA albums like soundtracks are tagged as VA?
Maybe by tagging them separtely with different Songkong settings?

I think because SongKong treats them as compilations it set the Is Compilation field and that is probably the reason why Logitech views as VA albums. If you use Edit Metadata task in SongKong and go to the Album Advanced tab you can disable the Is Compilation flag. Please let me know if this resolves the issue.

The problem is not SongKong sets Album Artist and Artist, this is best practise to have both these fields completed.

Actually the reason SongKong treats Best Of as compilations is historical, this was to provide compatability with MusicBrainz Picard. But they only treat Va compilations as compilations now, so I do plan to change this as you want, and additionally add an Is Greatest Hits flag so can separate an artists original albums from greatest hits albums.
