Chinese Characters in Windows 7

Hi,

Some of my songs are showing up properly with their English titles, artists, etc in Jaikoz and MP3tag, but when I go to look at the files in Windows Explorer, it shows some of the metadata in Chinese characters. It only happens rarely on a handful of files, but it is weird nonetheless.

To fix it, I load my songs in MP3tag and press save and the English shows up in the metadata in Windows Explorer. This probably isn’t a major issue and broad issue, but its something to think about.

Thanks in advance. Best investment ever!

The issues lies with Windows 7 rather than Jaikoz really, but here is the problem.

If you have Preferences/Save/Compatability/Do Not Unsynchonize ID3 Tags enabled and you have a field that has to be saved using UTF-16 rather than ISO8859-1 this combination confuses Windows 7 (but the file is not corrupt).

The workaround is to enable
Preferences/Save/Compatability/Do Not Unsynchonize ID3 Tags

Unsynchronization is rarely needed these days. (This is the default setting)

For existing files you need to use Force Save to force them to save using the changed setting, and you may also need to enable Preferences/Save/ID3 Tag v2/Save existing fields using these Preferences
