Cannot specify paths for Browser & Music Player

This started happening with the last version (definitely, but might have appeared even earlier) of Jaikoz and continues with Ween.

In Preferences when I’m trying to set the path for Browser & Player, in the Finder widow that appears, all the folders are clickable but all files (irrespective of file type) are inaccessible as they are greyed out

This is a MacOS specific issue, on other platforms you want to select a file such as FireFox.exe for browser. But on MacOS you want to select an .app file. But .app file is actually a folder so you want to select a folder but not be able to select any folder, this is handled in Java by a specail property

apple.awt.fileDialogForDirectories

The code does not seem to have changed so I dont know if there is problem with underlying Java version removing support for this varaible, have raised https://jthink.atlassian.net/browse/JAIKOZ-1531

Workaround, is you can manually type the value into the text field instead of selecting via the Path value, and that will work.

Thanks Paul,

I have tried to manually type the path to Opera and VLC (respectively) for my preferred browser and music player.

However this does not work. The Play function does not work no matter what box I click on to select the track I want to play.

I do not know if this is relevant but the article at: https://osxdaily.com/2024/06/03/how-install-java-mac-m3-m2-m1-apple-silicon/ says: “Modern Macs and modern versions of MacOS do not include Java by default and haven’t for quite some time, so if you need Java on an Apple Silicon Mac, you will have to install it manually.”

I went ahead and followed this article’s instructions … Problem in Jaikoz still exists … !!

Can I see screenshot of the General:Appearance screens please so I can see what you have set Browser Path and Appearance to

Hi, no not relevant Jaikoz comes with its own version of Java as part of the installation, there is no need to install Java separatedly.

To make sure I got these paths correct, I located each app in Finder and copied the apps’ path and then pasted it into Jaikoz.

Having now pasted the paths into Jaikoz’s preferences the Player and Browser both work even though what I pasted was identical to what I had originally typed … ?? And yes, I always click “Save” before leaving the Preferences dialogue.
The issue of only folders remaining “clickable” and not individual apps when you follow the “Path” button, remains.
