Best way to reduce album count?

Thanks to Jaikoz my metedata is in pretty good shape but now I would like to consolidate all my tracks on the minimum number of albums possible.
I’m using v3.8.3 so have the “Match songs to one MusicBrainz release” option. My questions are:

  1. Can I just load my entire library and select this option from the “Action” menu ie will Jaikoz then go thru my library and minimise my album count by consolidating tracks onto the minimum number of albums possible?
  2. Can you explain the “Only Match Whole complete releases” preference - I’m not sure about its affect.

Thanks
Nigel

  1. No, Match songs tp one Musicbrainz Release is used to match the selected songs to one release, unless it can match all songs to to one release it will do nothing. So it only works one album a time but you can use it to merge tracks that have been allocated to multiple albums to one album.

  2. Checking the Only Match complete releases ensures that when you run Autocorrect From Musicbrainz it will only match songs if all songs in a particular grouping can be matched to one release. So if you enable this option you may get more accurate matching BUT it doesn’t do the song by song matching so you probably will miss out on some matching. Also it will only do puid matching if your songs already have a puid (whereas the song by song matching will try and create a puid if song doesnt already have puid) so if you decide to you this option I would advise running Retrive Acoustic Ids aon all your songs first.

  1. Re Match songs to one Musicbrainz Release
Ok so this is a manual option whereby you need to know that the songs should all be on the same album?

  2. Re checking the Only Match complete releases preference
What do you mean by “…in a particular grouping…”?
Assuming all my songs have a PUID can I just set this preference then run a Autocorrect From Musicbrainz on my entire library to reduce my album count?
(I want to be very sure about this so I don’t mess up my library)

Thanks
Nigel

Yes, the point of it is to make it as easy as possible to match the songs to one album when Jaikoz hasnt be able to do a good match itself.

Jaikoz looks at the songs loaded and has to guess which songs belong to the release by looking at the folders they are within and their existing metdata (some songs may be allocated to multiple groups, for example when the folder name looks like an album name but it is different to the album metadata value), these are the groupings.

Autocorrect only corrects songs that have not already been allocated a Musicbrainz Id, so no this wont really work if you have already autocorrected them.

If you are reasonably happy with your results I would just scan through your songs looking for where they have been split and use the Match Songs to One Release tasks on those songs, album at a time.

Ok no problem.
I’ll post this one to the Wishlist ie an option to “Match songs to minimum number of albums”.
Thanks for your help.

Would be fine to see predefined profiles for different task. Only one “autocorrecter” is not enough IMHO

I agree, I wish there were a way to make an “Autofiler” where I could change the filenames and move them to folders after I Autocorrected and fixed genres, country, funny artist case (UB-40), etc.

AC gets it right most of the time, but I still gotta watch it. Having a different “OK, I’m done editing” macro would be a plus for me.
