Bare Metal MusicBrainz Mirror

I have been trying for a week to get a musicbrainz mirror installed onto an unused laptop of mine. I have had very little success. My concept is that this laptop’s sole purpose would be to mirror the musicbrainz server so that I could cut down on the time it takes SK to run my 27K library.

I have tried following multiple instruction sets including the instructions that come with the MB install package. Some work better than others but none of them get me to a local server that I can connect to.

Does anyone have an install process or any tips at all on getting a bare metal install of Musicbrainz going? It is frustrating and I see many others out there that are frustrated too.

There are instructions in SongKong for using a prepackaged Virtual machine, this is much easier (use VMware rather than Virtual Box torrent and software).

Installing bare metal server may not be much quicker as long as you give your virtual machine sufficient memory and is probably not worth the hassle, but if you really want to do it the best support option is the musicbrainz irc channel.
