Automagically set Length Id3 tag?

It’d be nice with each mp3 loaded, to have it’s Length id3 attribute automatically generated by the application. Which would seem possible, as the Summary shows the length next to the title whether the Length attribute is set, or not.

and continuing this trend…

Being able to set the formatting of the Length, whether in a time format (05:23), in minutes (5.383333), seconds (323), or milliseconds (323000)

That could be done easily enough, what do you the ID3 length field for ? I always use the MP3 Audio field as it is more likely to be correct

Thanks for the fast response Paul!!

I’m not familiar with the mp3 Audio Field, is it a valid id3 tag?

I use Length to read an mp3’s id3.TLEN attribute.

No isn’t an ID3 tag, it is calculated from information in the Audio Header , as such it should reflect accurately the actual length of the music. You can see it in Jaikoz by selecting ‘View/Show View pane’ menu and then selecting the View Audio Tab and looking at the Playing Time column

Gotcha. Is there currently a way for batch-processing multiple files to set the id3 Length attribute to the Playing Time value?

If not, that’s definitely on my wishlist, as well as being able to set a preference for the Length format (minutes, seconds, milliseconds).

I rely on id3 tags. Thank you Paul.

Added to enhancement list

Very cool! I think it would work easiest if thereis a preference option to auto set Length (TLEN) id3 tag upon file import. Thanks

Hey Paul, where can I check to see if this made it into an update? Is the dev-list kept private, or is there somewhere we can see a list of what you’re working on, any problems encountered, etc? A dev-blog perhaps?

Hi it hasnt made it yet. I considered a dev blog but the drawbacks are that it probably wouldnt be very interesting and would take up time I could spend more productively.

Once things have settled down with Jaikoz I am going to add the remaining bugs and enhancements into a publicably assessible Issue Tracker site, this will allow you to see what is in the pipeline.
