Autocorrector Buttons

Paul,

What do you think about being able to make different autocorrector buttons up in the toolbar. Basically custom macros for different tasks that the user can cook up via something resembling the manipulators tab in preferences. That way repetitive tasks can be added to the button bar that accomplish tasks at different times. And being able to name the button something like “Do file names and Subfolders” or “Do Capitalizer and Whitespace”. The Sky’s the limit as to the macros a user could come up with and would really help speed up repetitive tasks.

Jason

WOW!

And it should be possible to determine if the button (script) affect only the selected fields, the selected tracks or on every track in window.

I suggest we start collecting for these features or else we could ask Santa…

This has come up a few times before and been dismissed. However, I partially agree with you.

I don’t like your idea for buttons for a bunch of little tasks. Your concern is speed, but Paul usually focuses on keystroke shortcuts for common commands, and they don’t get faster than that. I’m actually glad there isn’t a cluttered ribbon at the top. Between the context (RMB) menu, advanced button bar, keyboard shortcuts and the menu bar, I think there’s already adequate redundancy.

Something I would use though is an AutoFiler button. You run AC, fix mistakes/genres/artwork/etc, THEN run the AutoFiler when you know everything is correct. The AF would have similar macros as the AC (maybe the AC would “take ownership” of a command so it cannot be run again in AF?), with maybe the addition of some things like “Close Files” or “Upload PUID pair”.

Anyways… just my 2 cents.

Much respect and thanks for the reply. I’d like to respond though. Firstly my resolution on my screen is 1400X900 and when Jaikoz is maximized (osx) there is a huge blank space next to the other buttons. Plenty of room for my proposed macro buttons.

These macros could very easily have your hot keys if you so like. I for one am an old man with a failing memory so remembering key combinations is daunting in the least  And since they are custom, no one is obligated to put them on the toolbar and use them. these things should be on the context menu too.

DJitalSneaky , just so you are clear dkoh is only replying as a customer not as a Jaikoz developer.

I certainly havent dimissed having more buttons on the toolbar, the issue has always been doing the icons for them.

As for custom buttons, the difficulty is your definition of Macro, currently Jaikoz doesnt support Macros/Scripts. As you say ‘the sky the limit as to what user could come up with’ , but my time is not unlimited.

I do plan to provide an api/plugin system to allow you to take the selecleted fierlds/songs and run some Java or Javascript against them, but then there are already the existing correcter tasks, so this needs more thought.

Other users have also suggested having multiiple autocorrecters, or multiple user oreferences.

There is alot of common ground between these ideas, but havent decided quite how to proceed with this.

Is it an issue of designing the art? I’m in good with a professional graphic designer. (She gave birth to me)

Forgive me my Laymen-ness but isn’t autocorrector already a scripting applet? Shouldn’t it be just a matter of ‘Cloning’ auto corrector and linking it to its manipulators just like you already have. Then including a small set of icons that the user can choose from, and the ability to name the autocorrector clone.

And hey I’ve seen your to-do list I know you’re very busy mate

Hah! Yeah, I’m just an average schmuck. Sorry if I came off sounding “official”. :stuck_out_tongue:

That is one issue, perhaps you could have a chat and send an email to support , and some exmaples to at jthink dot net, my funds are quite limited for this kind of thing.

Well, its not an applet, it pure Java, and the tasks that are already available to be added to the Autocorrecter (Preferences:Manipulators:Autocorrecter)
are different to some of the standalone tasks you mentioned like stanalone capitalizer, but it could certainly be done.

Yeah, and that list is out of date !
