After "Action > Auto Correct" what next?

Does Auto Correct do everything possible to fix my songs’ metadata? I mean does it consult all of the possible databases and methods Jaikoz supports? Or should I manually run MusicBrainz, Discogs, Acoustid, etc. afterwards in hopes of getting more data filled in?

Auto Correct did a decent job after running all night on my ~30k songs, but there are still lots of missing fields. It’s way too painful to try to fix them manually, and fixing them from folder/filename appears not to do anything, so I’d like to know what else I can do automatically to improve my tagging situation.

A few other random questions:

  1. What’s the difference between the “Edit” and “ID3 Edit”
    tabs?

  2. What does it mean when a set of songs have no data and are “blocked off” by a big grey box in the edit tabs, preventing editing or even selecting fields?

I know some of my music is probably not fixable automatically (converted from flac in audition, bootlegs, unreleased stuff, etc) so I’m decently happy with the job Jaikoz does. I’m just wondering if I can squeeze more out of it.

Yes it does, however because matching is grouped based to start with the quality of the metadata in surrounding songs can improve the channces of matching songs, so running autocorrect again can generate further matches

Also, sometimes Jaikoz find matches but they are not good enough for it to automatically select the match. You can run Manual Match from Musicbrainz and this will show potential matches that you can select.

Fixing from filename will only work if the Preferences:Correct File an Folder Correct:Correct Metadata from Filename mask matches how your files are named.

Edit is what you normally use it shows a standard view of the metadata for all file formats. ID3 Edit only applies to mp3s, and shows how they are mapped internally to the ID3 format use by mp3s, it also shows any additional metadata stored in the ID3 tag that is not mapped to the generic Edit view.

I think you just mean the ID3 Edit tab, this would be because they are not in mp3 format.

That’s very helpful, thank you very much for the detailed reply. I’m getting the hang of it now, and Jaikoz is definitely saving me a ton of time. Well worth the money.

I just manually matched 800 songs and I have some suggestions for the manual correct from MusicBrainz process that would be nice features to have:

  • set a minimum match score and have it auto-select the highest score match above that threshold

  • set a minimum match score and have it skip any song without at least one match above that score

  • not display songs with no possible match at all; just skip them

  • set a minimum match score for options to show in the select window. If there are a few matches above 90 (or whatever threshold I want to set) I don’t need to see the ones that score much lower as they are always wrong.

Those are just some suggestions I have to make the manual match process go faster with less scrolling and clicking. Thanks again for your help and the great tool.

P.S. What is the minimum score Auto Correct requires before it trusts MusicBrainz? I was surprised to see many songs with 95-97 matches available when doing it manually. They were all correct, so I’m surprised Auto Correct didn’t use them.

Yes, I mean the ID3 Edit tab. But since the “ID3 Edit” tab is blocked out and shows no data for these items I can’t figure out the file path & name to go look at what they are and remove them or whatever. Please consider showing the file path and name for everything so I can link what I’m looking at back to actual files on my disk.

In fact, that’s something that would be useful to have as an option in the “manual match from MusizBrainz” windows – a way to show the actual file in windows explorer or the mac equivalent. In my case, the folder name often has info that would help me select or verify a match, so this would be a big help.

I just noticed there’s a “Jaikoz WIshlist” forum and someone already asked for this feature here http://jthink.net/jaikozforum/posts/list/0/7482.page#16889 it would be great if there were a way to right click and show the file on disk from every place in Jaikoz.

Am I mistaken in thinking that fields highlighted in purple have been changed but not saved? I have a bunch of “Track No” and “User Defined Text info” fields with purple backgrounds that remain purple after choosing “save changes”.

(If I should make a new thread for each question please let me know and I will do so.)

HI, yes please open different threads for different subjects or it becomes very difficult for me and others to keep track.

Some good suggestions on Manual Correct, however the scoring stuff is not really practible to expose the scoring is not as simple as that.

I dont really understand why you would be looking at the ID3 edit tab unless you were looking at something specific to mp3s therefore would not see filepath for other formats.
