Adding V1 ID3 Tags At A Later Date

I’ve been working through my MP3 collection and I’ve just gone through most of my albums with very few problems.

I’ve been tagging them with ID3 V2 tags and had the V1 setting on ‘Never write’.

Now, I have an urgent need to use some of these albums with some old software which only sees V1 tags.

So, I set Jaikoz to write V1 and V2 tags, loaded the albums and did a ‘Force Save’ for each of them.

The problem is that the old software in question only looks for the ID V1 Track number tag… and that’s the only one that’s missing!

Jaikoz is writing the Artiste, Title, Album, Year etc, but isn’t writing the Track Number tag.

Any suggestions please?

A quick update:

The problem is not so urgent now as I’ve just knocked together a program which reads in the V2 tags, copies the fields to the V1 tags and then saves them out.

So, at least I can get the required albums tagged to work with the software now - until you get time to look at the problem.

Problem replicated.

Right the problem occurs when your song V2 tag has both track no and track total when it tries to save v1 tag it saves track/tracktotal (ie 01/10) which is invalid for a v1 tag and just gets ignored.

This is a regression that must have ocurred when I changed Jaikoz to have one fieldswhereas it previously had two seperate fields for trackno, tracktotal. Fixed for next release.

Fixed in Jaikoz 3.11
